Tips for Your House Painting Project

Painting the house interior is an alternative of having a fresh look on your house without renovating it. Using odorless paint as well as quick-dry paint is an advantage when painting indoors because of kids and other adults that may be affected by your project.

But painting the house requires a careful assessment and preparation. So when you have decided on a theme and you have the materials, including the correct colors, it's time to start on the project. Here are tips to help you with your project:

Before and during painting:

Make sure that you have proper ventilation in the rooms you are working with. If necessary, you can use a mask or respirator.

Properly close the containers of your paint and solvent.

Make sure that all paint materials are out of children's reach.

Avoid paint from coming into contact with bare skin.

Thoroughly read through the instructions on the packaging.

Preparing the surface:

Clear the room of as much furniture as possible. The heavier ones can stay but arrange them together and protect with a cloth.

Remove wall plates and outlet covers.

Have sufficient lighting so you can properly notice any flaw in the surface.

If you find holes or cracks, patch with spackling paste then sand the patched areas.

Clean dust away and wash the walls, windows, moldings, etc.

You can paint over a clean wallpaper but it is preferable to just remove it because it may begin to peel sometime later.

Painting the walls:

First, paint around the moldings on the wall.

Make the final strokes of a paint with glossy finish in the opposite direction of the source of light of that room.

After Painting:

Paint on the floor should be immediately removed because it will be harder to remove it later. Use cloth dipped in soap and water or use a solvent.

Tools, such as a putty knife, will be needed to remove paint drops that have dried.

Use a scraper for the edges of window panes.

Before storing, wash brushes and rollers and dry them thoroughly. Storage will depend on each brand and type because there are different materials for brushes and rollers.

Don't overlook the rim of the paint's can and clean away paint from it also. Make sure to close the lids tightly by using a hammer or even a block of wood.

Oil-based paint can be stored upside down so it can last longer.

Room temperature is best for the storage of paint cans. Intense temperatures are a big no for paint storage.

Proper disposal methods vary from state to state so make sure to check with laws regarding paint disposal.
